Collection Protocol

Collect blood in appropriate vacutainer tube. Centrifuge to separate serum from the clot. Transfer serum into leakproof all plastic tube. Refrigerate or freeze sample until shipment.

EDTA plasma is NOT acceptable for electrolyte analysis. Plasma from a tube containing a chelating anticoagulant is unacceptable for this test. Specimens where Zinc is of interest must be collected in no-additive Royal Blue top serum tubes. These tubes can be ordered from the DCPAH in sets of five (99012).

Whole blood selenium analysis will be performed if whole blood is received. Do not freeze whole blood. Serum is the only acceptable specimen for the rest of the panel.

Shipping Requirements

Ship serum samples in a leakproof tube. Generally, serum samples may be shipped at ambient temperature. We recommend using one of the DCPAH UPS single mailers. See product order form for mailer numbers #99020, 99021, or 99022. However, during hot months, we recommend shipping with an ice pack using the DCPAH Insulated Mailer with UPS (99220 - Single, 99221 - 3 pack or 99222 - 6 pack).

This panel includes Calcium, Chloride, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Bicarbonate, Cobalt, Copper, Iron, Manganese, Molybdenum, Na:K Ratio, Selenium, Sodium, and Zinc.

Smaller volumes can be analyzed. For any volume less that the stated "Minimum Volume Required" please contact the nutrition lab prior to submission.
